Evian-les-Bains or Evian is a town in the northern part of the Haute-Savoie department in France, on the shores of Lake Geneva, opposite Lausanne, Switzerland. It has a population of about 7,300 people.
Evian is home to the new Hilton Evian-les-Bains. This new development adds value to the shores of the small town and attracts more tourism.
City areas
On the chateau-dotted southern shore of Lake Geneva, Evian-les-Bains is one of the leading spa resorts in France. Its lakeside promenade, lined with trees and lawns, has been fashionable since the 19th century.
Attractions
The clear, cold waters at Evian, legendary for their health and beauty benefits, attract a clientèle that possesses both the time and the money to appreciate them. Although these days the spas at Evian aren’t just for the rich anymore.
Events
Evian isn’t much for events, as most people come here only for the rest and relaxation part. There are however some artistic events, mostly through the summer period, which will undoubtedly delight the more art sensitive types.
Transportation
Evian can be a starting point for the 741 km drive to Nice along the Route des Grandes Alpes. One of Europe’s great drives, it links Lake Geneva with the Riviera, crossing 35 passes along the way. Leaping from valley to valley, it’s open from end to end only in summer.
Restaurants & Nightlife
A renowned spa and summer resort, Evian delights its visitors with some of the best and somewhat expensive restaurants around. But if you are on a budget, then don’t panic. Not all restaurants are expensive, and the food here is good wherever you might choose to it.
History & Civilization
The name Evian comes from an old French word – eveux - meaning humid, which in this case designates a moist field. The expression refers to the presence of water sources, which the town is most famous for.
Evian – the fountain of youth
Evian is a French brand of mineral water coming from several sources near Evian-les-Bains, on the south shore of Lake Geneva. Although it’s not from the fountain of youth, it has been praised along the years as being a viable cure for kidney and liver problems.
